See a doctor: There are many causes of being underweight.The main ones are inadequate intake of calories, need for hydrochloric acid and/or digestive enzymes,malabsorption, inflammation of intestines (possibly from intestinal parasites),celiac disease and other food allergies, vitamin/mineral/amino acid deficiencies and hyperthyroidism. A good GI doc or holistic doc can help you find what the problem(s) is/are.

Depends: In general, females ages nine to 13 generally need about 1, 400 to 1, 600 calories a day, while females ages 14 to 18 need about 1, 800.  Males ages nine to 13 typically need 1, 600 to 2, 000 calories a day, while males ages 14 to 18 need closer to 2, 000 to 2, 400. The calorie intake increases based on your activity level though. These general numbers are for sedentary activity level.

Yes: As a ringside physician, i've known beginning boxers with tremendously massive abdominal muscles that are not yet visible because they have not yet gotten to their best boxing weight, with very little body fat. Whether you count calories, do a lot of cardio, and/or just watch what you eat, if you have a fair amount of ab muscle and almost no trunk fat, you'll have your sixpack.

Calculate:: Take your weight in pounds = 170, multiply by 10 to get 1700 (for your resting metabolic rate) and add to that 10 to 30 % depending on your level of physical activity, i.e. 170-510 calories. The average for a man is 2100 calories per day. Below that puts the body into starvation mode. The more muscle the more calories you will burn.

hi, i've lost 20kg over 3 months but i've not lost weight for the last 2 weeks despite my continous exercise and calorie counting.  i'm i in trouble?

Not at all: You have probably reached a plateau.  It may take your body time to reach a new patient.  The more weight you loose the harder the last few pounds can be. Inital weight loss is water loss mostly.  You may want to try medication now.  This will help.

Don't be: afraid, be intelligent. Learn to eat and exercise properly so that you can continue it for the rest of your life and avoid diet and obesity initiated diseases.

Sharing frustration: I too use machines and each gives markedly varying outcomes in spite of identical programs.  Approximate values maybe   In other words, all vague advertising hype!!!

No: It's ook but watch your carbs, you might be getting too much carbs in your low calorie diet. You have to have your diet balanced.
