Most : Most women who have mastectomy are able to make a personal decision with their plastic surgeon regarding the final size of your breasts.  If you have breast reconstruction using tissue expanders, the expanders will be gradually filled until you have reached the size goal that will work best for your body and your personal aesthetic.  The tissue expanders will then be exchanged for similarly sized permanent breast implants at a second operation.

Some plastic surgeons are performing one stage breast reconstruction with immediate placement of permanent breast implants.  This approach eliminates a second operation, but your implant size choice is limited by the amount of skin and tissue that you have following mastectomy.

As always, discuss your options with your board certified plastic surgeon to determine what is best for you.

Would need to see u: Would need to see you in the office. If you are transitioning from female to male, you may want a mastectomy to remove all breast tissue so you are totally flat and you have less risk of breast cancer going forward. The draw back is its not reversible since all breast tissue is removed. Also a decision would have to be made about removing or keeping the nipples. Consult with a surgeon in your area

: Excessive breast weight does affect the spine. Please note that medically advised breast reduction surgery is usually covered by insurance if you have health insurance.

Varies w/technique: In general, there are two reconstruction options: (1)tissue expanders to stretch the skin of the chest wall, followed by implants(2)tissue transfer, where skin, fat(+/-muscle) are brought over to the chest wall from the abdomen or back. Both of these options can look very natural (esp w/nipple-areolar sparing surgery).  Option (2) feels more natural but w/limited sensation (&bigger operation).

No: Generally a reconstruction is performed by using an implant or by using a woman's own fatty tissue from her abdomen or back.

Breast reduction: Your complaint is actually not uncommon.  Get a referral to a plastic surgeon and they will explain the process to get this procedure approved.

Subcutaneous mastectomy and implants may be a choice depending on he specific anatomy.

Accepted Answer

It is your choice: Breast cancer can be adequately treated with a lumpectomy in most cases. So a mastectomy is not really necessary. But based on your breast size, your doctor can guide you best. Many women opt for reconstructive surgery at the same time as removal of your breast cancer.

what are the common risks of spinal cord stimulation surgery?

Accepted Answer

Different: The low risks of such a procedure include infection, hematoma, neurologic injury, broken wire, loss or change in stimulation over time, dural tear, migration of wire leads, and failure of the wire or pulse generator. Prior to undergoing any procedure, speak with your doctor prior to undergoing any spinal procedures for full risks and benefits.

is surgery a good solution for a compressed spinal cord?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Your spinal cord is essential for normal function and movement of everything below the level of compression. If your cord is being compressed, and a neurosurgeon is recommending a surgical decompression, listen well. Okay to ask questions, particularly about risk and benefit and have family present. Be well.
