It is not a disease found in the US. However, Americans can get the same thing from the botfly. It is common in my area on animals and humans can get "bots," too

Plenty: Eating fruits and plenty of them is beneficial for the health. Diet rich in fruits and vegetables lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and certain cancers. Mango has plenty of good nutrients for the body, and you can enjoy as many as you like in a given day.

Why would you take?: Even though it was mentioned by dr. Oz (who generally isn't very accurate on medical topics), it doesn't seem to decrease weight, fat breakdown, or energy expenditure in overweight people. There is some mixed evidence that garcinia might help people feel full but this needs further study; it's too early to recommend. T can cause nausea, headaches, etc., so can't be recommended at this time.

Iodine: There is no iodine in food and no cross reaction between an iodine allergy and any food allergy, not even shellfish, so eat what you want and mango is good too.

No. No. No.: People eat one mango at a time, the entire mango. Here in California, we buy them by the box, which is about 18-24 mangoes. Nibbling all the good stuff off the pit is what we do. A few people like a little bit of the skin for flavor; most people just toss the skin. As long as a person is not allergic to mango flesh, skin, or sap, it's fine to eat a mango.

Food Rash: The best way to treat a rash caused by ingestion of food is to eliminate the food from the diet. If the rash is very itchy, a topical anti-itch cream can be applied and last resort is to try and oral non-sedating antihistamine.

Sometimes: There are a variety of fruits including ripe mango which can be of some benefit to patients with acid reflux, possibly because of the digestive enzyme papain found in this.

Hydrocortisone cream: A rash from the mango peel reacts just like poison ivy (they are in the same family). A topical cortisone cream may help but you may need a stronger rx strength preparation. Be sure to clean off anything which had been in contact with the mango peel.
