on lansoprazole for a year 15mg a day for diverticulitis and for risk bleeding on plavix i see lansoprazole can decrease my magnesium.so on my medication ,especially ramipril can i take magnesium supplements as there is moderate risk of hyperkalemia?

You need levels: Before you assume that a possible side effect of a medication is going to happen to you you need to know for sure.  Too much magnesium, potassium or calcium can be as bad as too little.  A simple blood test looking at your magnesium and electrolytes will answer that question, and then you have information to tailor what if any supplements to take

Yes: there are no contraindications with any medication, as far as I know.  Magnesium is found in many foods, and magnesium deficiency has become more common, particularly with use of drugs like omeprazole (Prilosec), esomeprazole (Nexium) and similar drugs which markedly reduce stomach acid and impede magnesium absorption.

is it ok to take magnesium citrate oral solution if on thyroid medication ?

Accepted Answer

Use with caution: Magnesium salts can bind with levothyroxine( common thyroid medication), if taken simultaneously may  reduce absorption of the thyroid medication/ decrease its effect. To reduce this interaction, take thyroid medication at least 4 hours before or after the magnesium citrate  dose. Note that other antacids and calcium supplements may also affect thyroid medications; same caution is also advised.

went on high blood pressure medication for 2months it gave me extreme anxiety i was taken off the medication ,monitored at home for 2 weeks my blood pressure was 122/80 . taking ashawaganda and magnesium for anxiety still feel off why?

: I don't think that those supplements are effective treatment for chronic anxiety or stress. I'd rather see you being treated by a mental health professional for best care. Modalities like cognitive behavioral or stress management therapy with or without appropriate medications are much more effective. Your PCP can refer you.

my depression and anxiety is so worse and i'm on my normal medication paxil (paroxetine) 60mg concerta 36mg klonopin for panic attacks i've fake b vitamins , magnesium , vitamin d, folic and iron. ?

Depressive relapse: Sounds like a relapse into depression. In these situations with the medications you're on it's likely that there is a dopaminergic disturbance. I think it would be reasonable to talk to your psychiatrist about the possibility of adding in Abilify (aripiprazole)  as an augmentation strategy.

Botox and thinners: While the risk of bleeding and bruising is higher with anticoagulants, especially if more than one is used, i feel comfortable using Botox in most facial regions.  Make sure to disclose all the medications you are using, including supplements, vitamins, or even special diets you are on.  These can all affect overall bleeding.

can i take advil with betahistine dihydroc16mg? is ther any medication to avoid with it? i usally take calcium magnesium daily. is that ok with it?

Ok with advil: I did not see interaction with advil. It is ok to use with advil. It is ok with Calcium-mag.

Drugs that may interact:
antihistamines or other beta2-agonists or monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

what are the differences between magnesium citrate vs oxide? which will work better with stimulant medication?

They are different : Salts of magnesium. The magnesium citrate may be absorbed a little better, but if you take too much of either one, you might end up with loose stools. So talk with your PCP about which one S/he recommends for you to take right now.

i have a migraine and i'm pregnant, but i've tried otc medications. what other medications will work? is magnesium okay?

Accepted Answer

: Most medications used to treat acute migraines are contraindicated in pregnancy due to risk of fetal malformations and potential miscarriage.  Magnesium may prevent headaches at proper levels but will not work in migraine cessation.  Have found that inhalation of 100% oxygen may be useful, but you will need your doctor to provide a prescription.

what blood tests should i do besides magnesium if i suffer from panic atacks and anxiety.its not a psychiatry prob i tried their medication 8 years

Accepted Answer

Causes of anxiety: I would consider thyroid function if that hasn't been done yet. Cortisol is another thing to consider. I usually check these more for depression than anxiety, but vitamin d, vitamin b12, and folate are other blood tests we check when we feel there is an underlying cause to mood presentations.
