Need evaluation: Many factors involved if your question is why do I have low libido?  You should consult a local urologist to get evaluated for this.  Your transplant team or nephrologist should be able to manage your magnesium and iron.

No: Magnesium is not known to be toxic to the kidneys although it can accumulate in the blood when large amounts are taken in the presence of relatively advanced kidney disease.

Magnesium: Your level is borderline low and should be repeated along with serum calcium level. If you're not taking diuretics,losing body fluids,have elevated calcium level,or have hyperthyroidism or if you're not taking medications like ppi's I predict your repeat magnesium level will be normal. Discuss this with your physician.

Prevent, not remove: There are a few studies that show magnesium supplementation along with B6 or just magnesium can reduce the formation of kidney stones by 90% or so. However I am not aware of anything that suggests magnesium supplementation will dissolve kidney stones that all are already there. Hopefully they will leave quietly. :) Good health

Yes, however: Magnesium is VERY safe for everyone with healthy kidneys.The only side effect from too much would be loose stools.With levels that low I advise trying 200 mg 2x/day.

Likely filtered out: High dose magnesium can cause muscle weakness / fatigue / lethargy, but with good hydration, the kidneys will filter and excrete the excess over time. Use all medications / treatments according to dr's recommendations. Call poison center for specific advice and recommendations if concerned.

Unclear: One of the main side effects of oral magnesium is diarrhea and gastrointestinal discomfort.  The IV version has more side effects.  Kidney pain isn't usually one of them.  If you can directly attribute the mag to a consistent pain that happens each time you take it, you should let your doctor know and discuss stopping the medicine.

Magnesium deficiency: Is common in the general population without any medical problems. Since you do have medical issues particularly kidney failure you can be at a higher risk. One way to increase the magnesium is to take supplements. However, anytime someone has comorbidities, I always recommend taking medication and supplements under physician guidance.
