Not sure: There is a small nerve that travels from the ear canal (deep) area to the tongue that if it's mobility is altered somehow may cause some pain that is percieved to be comeing from your ear.  Also, as you swallow, the pressure gradient can change in your middle ear and if there is inflammation present or a significant change in pressure, it may cause pain / soreness. I recommend seeing an ENT doctor.

Eustachian tube: When you swallow, a muscle opens the tube that communicates to the middle ear space from the back of the nose.(eustachian tube).  This is a normal physiological process that equalizes middle ear pressure to outside pressure.  If this process hurts, there is probably some inflammation in either the throat, back of nose, or middle ear.  Swallowing should not cause ear pain.  See an ENT doctor.

Over the counter: If it is viral it will get better on its own with over the counter medications for the discomfort and throat sprays plus time. If it is bacterial (strep throat ex), then you will need antibiotics. If not better in a few days on its own, see MD to have strep ruled out.

PN drip: Postnatal drip can give you a sore throat and if thick enough it causes ear pain by not allowing your ear tubes to empty out in the back of your throat.

Eustachian tube: The tube that drains mucous from your middle ear is likely swollen. It can open and close when you chew or "pop" your ear and such maneuvers allow the air in and the pressure change can be uncomfortable. This will usually resolve over time as the swelling goes down.Ibuprofen should help for the pain.If it in not improving gradually, have it checked.

Eustachian tube: When you swallow, a muscle called the tensor veli palatini, opens the eustachian tube and air from the back of the nose (not really air but gases of oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide) travel into the middle ear and the ear drum pops.  This is a normal physiological phenomenon.  The ears should not hurt when you swallow.  See an ENT doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Possibly TMJ or ear : It is possible that you are suffering from TMJ issues, however, you should see an ENT to rule out anything more serious. If ENT doesn't find anything than you should see a dentist or orthodontist that specifically treats TMJ for an evaluation and treatment.

Common: Congestion may have created pressure in ears. Cold tips: for sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). * for congestion – saline nose drops or a neti pot. *for anti-inflammatory effect ; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.**for hydration- lots of water. Try clear broth. * add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea.  Feel better.
