Could be: It depends a great deal on the cause. Since they are quite small(may even be normal), i would watch and check if they are growing in size any further. If they are not growing over the next few weeks/months, they may not be  cause for any concern. But if they are enlarging then you need to go see your doctor for a medical examination soon.

See doctor: Submandibular nodes are usually small or not detectable. Any lymph node greater than one cm needs to be examined by a doctor. You may need a biopsy if the doctor can not determine a treatable cause for the nodes (like an infection in the mouth). Please see a doctor as soon as possible.

is it normal to feel my submandibular lymph nodes on both sides that is about 1 cm in diameter each?

No: but you may be confusing them for your submandibular gland.  Swollen lymph nodes can result from infection or rumors.  Typically, infected lymph nodes will be somewhat painful due to inflammation.  If you fell that ther are swollen for a while, you may want to see your doctor

: Lymph nodes at those sites are usually bigger than other sites of the body except the lymph nodes at the groins. Your nodes can be observed at this time. Ultrasound should be done if their sizes increase in the next 3-6 months. Take care.

i have multiple palpable lymph nodes on the right side of my neck since a year. all are 0.5 cm in diameter or less. the biggest one is 0.4 cm in diameter and 1.1 cm in length. oval shaped. not too soft, but not hard. moveable. should i be worried?

No. But see a doctor: If you are otherwise in good health these nodes may have been there longer than you think and may well represent old healed infection. It is impossible to know this for sure and the best way to deflect worry is to see a doctor who may be able to reassure you on the spot or may require further testing up to and including biopsy to give you the ultimate peace of mind, a diagnosis.

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells/digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph everywhere for bad stuff like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

No: Since 2.2 cm measures one inch a 1/2 cm. lymph node is smaller than 1/4 inch.  Several such nodes can be normally found without underlying pathology.  If they progress in number, become painful or definitely enlarge to the 1 cm. size I would consider biopsy.

Lymph node: Enlargement could come from infection or inflammation or sometimes even malignancy such as lymphoma or hodgkin's disease.  Follow your doctor's advice.

Very possibly...: but I think you should get an expert opinion.  I would advise you have your physician examine them and confirm your assessment that these lymph nodes are benign.  Then you can agree together on whether it is safe for you to self-monitor them, or if she/he wants you to return for a recheck just to make sure all remains stable/benign. Good wishes:)

Lymph nodes in kids: Yes. It is perfectly normal for children to have multiple lymph nodes up to 1.5-2 cm diameter from ages 1 to 21, usually in the neck on either side along a chain of lymph glands stretching from behind the ear all the way down to the clavicles. They are caused by the repeated (but normal) colds, sore throats, and other viral infections that children get. No need to worry.
