Could be sick.: Lymph nodes often enlarge in areas of infection or inflammation. If you have symptoms in that anatomic region, then perhaps there's a good reason for them to be swollen.  If not, and they persist beyond one month, you might want to consider them getting checked out and perhaps even removed for diagnosis.

Dental infection: A tooth abscess or dental infection may be the cause of jaw pain and lymph node swelling. The first person to help with a differential diagnosis is a dentist. They are trained to localize tooth borne or jaw related infections. If no answer there, an md consult or ENT consult would be appropriate.

can a lymph node under your chin be normal? i just happened to feel it when scratching my chin today. it feels small and moveable. i have a hard time feeling it unless i extend my jaw forward. no pain. just thought it was kind of an odd place?

: There are thousands of lymph node located around the body.Many in the neck, head,  behind the ear are prominent in kids as they are not buried in tissue . At rest these are often 1/4 inch in diameter and may grow to marble sized when reacting to a stimulus. Bug bites, or viral infections can increase their size to 1 cm or more.Most will  shrink  down to pre-stimulated size over 3-4 wks.

Lymph node: If it has been there and is unchanged for a few months then something emergent like cancer would be unlikely.  That area would be common for a benign reactive lymph node.  Also possible to have a lipoma or other benign cyst.  Neck region could also be a thyroglossal duct cyst.  Some antibiotics may be needed for possible infection.  Consider biopsy if persists.

my lymph node under my left jaw is bigger than the one at the right. is it normal? it's been there since i was  a little boy. no symptoms

Yes. Normal for you.: Since one of the nodes you can feel is larger but you have no symptoms and the size is stable, this is your normal anatomy. Lymph nodes are like beads in a chain and each will normally vary in size and everyone has unique anatomy. If you notice changes in size or texture or if they become tender then see a doctor.  To address your current worries, get an exam.

what can cuase a lymph node to be permently enlarged? i have a node on the side of my jaw around half an inch and it's never changed. i've had it for around 5 months. i've got no symptoms of lyphona. so what could this be cuased by?

If there is an infection, the lymph nodes near it swell with immune system cells, antibodies, etc. If you have a lymph node that has been swollen for 5 months, it is concerning and should be seen by your primary care Dr. for a thorough evaluation and potentially labs.
