Medicated shampoos: Most likely you have a condition called seborrheic dermatitis. So, otc medicated shampoos like head & shoulder, t-gel/t-sal, Nizoral (ketoconazole) would help. Dermatologists may order prescription-strengthed shampoos like clobex, etc plus steroid scalp lotions.

Several things ..: This could be related to more severe seborrheic dermatitis, a fungal infection(tinea capitis) of the scalp, or even psoriasis. Not one thing: Cold sores or herpes occur when your immune system is compromised.  An itchy scalp is due to dandruff or seborrhea. Stress causes an overproduction of sebum which plugs up the pores  and causes dandruff.

1. Don't use the oil for hair untill the ithcy scalp is treated.
2. Use medicated shampoos like polytar (coal tar) thrice a week to wash hairs thoroughly.
3. Always rinse the hairs thoroughly before applying shampoo.

No: Typically "HIV dermatitis" is not itchy at all and usually located on the upper trunk (chest) and occasionally on the palms and soles.  Since people who participate in high risk behavior can have other illnesses like syphllis or fungal skin infections which can be itchy, your best bet is to be tested.  Usually when someone asks there is often high risk behavior.  Don't put off testing!

Evaluation needed: Serious itching to the point of bleeding indicates a probably underlying issue that needs evaluation.  Your dermatologist can help you with this.  I assume you have already regularly used an anti-dandruff shampoo and have no environmental exposure which might contribute to an allergic reaction in your scalp.
