Not necessarily: You can get chest pain from pleurisy associated with the pneumonia. That would be the most common cause for chest pain, together with muscle sprain from coughing. Of course, if you are concerned about cancer, get checked!

The sensitivity: of a chest xray for detecting lung cancer ranges from about 40-80% according to various studies.  A chest xray is a 2D representation of a 3D structure with good spatial resolution and relatively poor contrast resolution. Small tumors and tumors located in front of, or behind, normal structures may not be visible. If lung Ca is a realistic concern, Chest CT is the study of choice.

Maybe,: but if you're having chest pain, cancer is not high on the list of potential causes.  If your pain is acute, consider going to the ER for evaluation.

Unlikely: Lung cancer takes quite a while to develop.  Your lungs are just clearing out the leftover garbage left down in there from smoking.  This is pretty common.  Congratulations on quitting smoking - probably the BEST thing you could ever do for your health!

Unlikely: The pains that you feel need to be evaluated for what is causing them. Lung cancer is usually initially without much pain except for irritation of airway maybe but are found most of the time accidentally when looking for other things or as part of screening. Look at your risks for it and be screened and look for causes of the pain. If they happen to correlate then you find out.

Chest pain: There are a lot of reasons that you can be having chest pain.  You need to see a doctor to have them determine if this is related to possibly your stomach or possibly your blood pressure.   Weight loss and cough should be evaluated.

Here is my guidance: Chest pain can be caused from many causes, lung cancer is not the first thing that should come to your mind. If the pain has been present for more than one week and your concern is cancer,  a Chest X-ray will show it easily. But you should go see a doctor first in case your pain is persistent for &gt;1 week..

Are you: referring to the ESR(erythrocyte sedimentation rate)? A value of 3 mm/hr is normal.  Even if it was elevated, the ESR is a very nonspecific indicator of inflammation and other pathology, and could be elevated for numerous reasons. You are relatively young and a non smoker, the chances that your pain is due to lung cancer are extremely miniscule.
