my husband found a dime sized lump under his skin behind his ear. what might this be?

May be a lymph node.: I am guessing it's one of the lymph nodes in the posterior cervical chain; they run from behind the ear down the neck. Lymph nodes are found all over our bodies; they trap debris and help us ward off infection. This might also be a sabaceous cyst. Call your doctor if it seems infected, or if it feels very firm or is getting significantly larger. Lgromkomd.

Lipoma: Lipomas, a fatty tumor are common in this location as well as a few other tumors.  Has the lump been present for some time or rapidly developing recently?  If rapid, get an evaluation by an ENT specialist fairly soon.  If it has been there for some time, you can probably ignore it if it does not bother you and is not changing.

Hopefully: It will resolve without intevention. You may have a  swollen lymph node or cyst that may or maynot be infected. If it doesn't resolve - get it checked.

Yes: This may very we be a swollen benign lymph node associated with a resolving infection because it is getting smaller.  Please get it checked by a doctor because this is something that needs to be examined and sometimes even biopsied to be sure what is going on.

Lymph node: There are many lymph nodes in the neck and back of the head that are often more noticeable because they are located where our fat pads don't hide them. If you feel around you should find several the size of a pea ; sometimes  bigger.They can increase to the size of a big peanut if stimulated by local factors, illness or vaccines.I would just monitor it or have doc see it during regular visit.

Reassurance: Its probably a cyst/lymphnode if it is on the bone probably the mastoid bone. If it is non painful you can observe it and see your doctor if there is more concern.

Lymph node: What you described suggests a slightly enlarged lymph gland/node. You could watch and wait. You may feel the node every couple of weeks, if the lymph gland doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

i have a lump under skin on left side of neck behind ear and halfway down neck, not painful. bigger in mornings when i wake whole left side even down back hurts when i lay on left side i am a paraplegic, f1 injury 5 yrs ago?

: The lump in the neck could be one of many things but the most likely is a reactive lymph node that may be because of various infections. You did not indicate how big it is, they quite often would go down by themselves after resolution of infection however it may also be due to cancer and sometime there is a need to biopsy it to find out the cause. The pain may be musculoskeletal and have Dr exam.
