The sructures in: This area include the parotid gland and lymph nodes. Infection in the gland is a possibility especially if it increases in size when you eat. See an ent.

Abcess: Yes. Sometimes the infection will drain towards the gums and create the "bump" you referred to.  Other times the infection stays in the jawbone and does not drain to the outside.

Tooth abcess: An infected tooth (tooth abcess) and infected gums (periodontal disease) can cause pain around the teeth and also pain in other areas of the mouth (referred pain). 
You should see your dentist for a thorough examination with x-rays to see if you have infections of both upper and lower teeth, or whether the pain is unrelated to your teeth (tmj, viral or fungal infections, wounds/injuries).

i had a tooth abscess that caused the lymph nodes along my jaw to swell on one side. if someone accidentally hit that lymph node, would it swell more? i was accidentally hit right in my jaw by my younger brother and now have lots of swelling and pain
