Two thoughts: Either an infection or a mucocele. It doesn't make sense to take any chances. See a dentist to know for sure. If it is an infection, even though it doesn't hurt now, it will soon enough and usually at the most inopportune time. If it's a mucocele, all the better. When was your last dental check-up?

A number of things: You want to have that evaluated by your dentist. There are several reasons for swollen gums. In your case it might be dental plaque. Dental plaque can build up on your brackets that can turns into a hard deposit called dental tartar. This can irritate your gum and cause it to get inflamed and enlarged. The other possibility is residual cement. Have your dentist evaluate it and provide close care.

Lump: Most likely it is a "traumatic fibroma" which is basically scar tissue built up from chronic trauma from the biting. You should still have it checked/biopsied to confirm. You can have it removed via a laser. It does have a reoccurrence possibility if the trauma persists and may need the same treatment years down the road, but it is important to have it checked.

However good choices would also be your General dentist, specialist Oral Pathologist, General Physician, or specialist Otolaryngologist (ENT). The most important thing to remember is that any and all lumps should be quickly evaluated.
