painless most of the time. painful when pushed and sometimes just randomly. lump in chest below collar bone left of my sternum on the left side. it feels big. went to the dr chest x-ray came back clean. what could this be? been there for 2 years?

: There may be a resolving soft tissue injury. Was there an injury in this area? A view of the clavicle or collar bone on that side may provide additional information. Do you have any other symptoms? Hard to say: This is a bit unusual.  Are they tender or red or very itchy?  Certain rashes can seem to be like lumps.  If they have been there a long time, they are probably nothing to worry about.  However, if new, and if you have any other symptoms like fever, tiredness, or lumps under your armpits, you should probably be seen by someone who can examine them and your whole body to see what is going on.

Impossible to: tell just by this description.  Soft tissue mass in this area is most likely lipoma, but it could be abnormally enlarged lymph node caused by infection or tumor.  Have your doctor take a look at it.

Maybe: There are many reasons for lumps on bones .  A standard x-ray may not provide all the answers . Ct is better. As for tb?  Well skin is best. See for doctor for that.

Brachial plexitis: By your description, it may be that you have inflammation or compression of the brachial plexus, which are an accumulation of all motor and sensory nerves controlling the arm. This resides just under your collarbone e. Need to be evaluated by your doctor.

Recommend ultrasound: Soft tissue abnormalities unless they contain calcium  are not seen by x-ray. Ultrasound can characterize cysts, solid tumors, cartilage abnormalities, etc.Utrasound is used more and more in defining soft tissue ligamentous and cartilaginous problems. Sometimes MRI is necessary.

: You could only be told possibilities because without examination it is impossible to definitively tell what it is. It could be tumor from any of the structures there and in view of age/duration it is likely to be benign it could be from the fat cells called lipoma or from the bone cells called osteoma and could be from blood, cartilage, muscles mixed with other tissues as you are likely find there
