i got the flu shot wednesday. i have  noticed that i now have a painful lump under my arm that wasn't there until i got the shot. is this a common side effect of the flu shot?

Uncommon not harmful: It's not a common side effect, but it probably indeed is due to inflammation from the immunization. In a way, this is good: it indicates your immune system is responding and you should be well protected from influenza. It should clear up soon, but return to your doctor, or wherever you were vaccinated, if severe, any fever, or if pain continues more than a few days.

i have a lump under my arm and feel short of  breath and faint. i got the flu shot a week ago but i don't know if its that. some have said possible leukemia?

Get evaluated.: Unless the folks who are saying "possible leukemia" have done the proper tests (bone marrow aspiration, cbc), i'd steer you away from accepting their diagnosis. But feeling faint, shortness of breath, and a lump under your arm are all potential  warning signals. See your doctor for an evaluation. An exam and some blood tests will provide reassurance - or information you need to know. Lgromkomd.

i got a flu shot on tuesday and within a few hours developed a small lump on the back of my forearm that started very soft and now feels fairly firm?

Hematoma: It's possible that a small hematoma or bruise may have been caused by the shot IF this swelling is at the site of the injection. If the injection site is not related to that lump, then it must be something else such as a muscle 'knot' or localized spasm. If it's a hematoma I wonder if you are on blood thinners/have a bleeding problem? If so, you should tell your doc. Also if fever develops, call.

Probably lymph node: It's probably a swollen lymph node.

BP management: If you are having pain during the daytime, perhaps it is related to muscular strain. If there are any masses, lymph nodes which can be felt, I would suggest a follow up visit with your PCP.  This problem is unlikely to be related to the flu illness which you had in December.
Since you have high BP, then regular check ups are indicated.

my left breast near my armpit is sore to touch with lumps. no fever, redness or flu symptoms. is it mastitis? i breastfeed

Mastitis: It could be mastitis.  I would continue breastfeeding and seek evaluation with a physician.  If it is an early mastitis, antibiotics will likely be needed.

That's OK: Every vaccine is intended to get your immune system's undivided attention. When it does, you get a little inflammation at the site (a sign the vaccine is doing its job), and sometimes that inflammation can precicipitate an itch. If there is a little redness, that's ok, a lot of redness, or a spreading rash, should probably get you to see your doctor.

Yes its quite common: It can last for less than a day in majority of people, but in some it could last longer, for a few days.
If it last longer 2-3 days or is getting worse, see your pcp, as it might be something else.

Not all over: You can get some sensation or weird feeling at the site of injection in the upper arm but not any other part of the arm.

my arm did not hurt at all this year after my flu shot, first time ever that it didnt. does this mean that something went wrong?

Accepted Answer

No: Sometimes pain occurs from certain tissues getting injured or inflamed from the trauma of a needle stick and sometimes no sensitive tissues are touched or no inflammation occurs. Antibodies still form from the vaccine either way.
