Be seen: I would have her seen just to make sure it is not serious, that being said the most common thing we will see is a lipoma, which is a completely benign process.  Having a doctor see an examine a growth just to make sure it is not a cancer is probably your best option.

Doctor can evaluate: Any 54 year-old with a new mass or new lump can get checked to see if it is something minor, such as a skin cyst, or some infection like an infected skin cyst, or something bad, such as a cancer. If the person has been taking good medical care of herself, her regular doctor can check things out. If the person has been lacking medical care for years, many things may be going on in a 54 year-old.

Yes: Scapular winging is fairly common and easily diagnosed by physical examination by an experienced ORS( there are different types of 'winging' depending on underlying cause( muscle imbalance, nerve injury, etc).Firm masses attached to the scapula is another matter( lipomas, osteochondromas,and other growths are seen occasionally). Get another opinion from a board certified ORS. GL!

Two things: scapula is on the backs and can "wing" from muscle or nerve issues. Push against a wall and see if both scapulae do the same.
Lump on shoulder sounds like a different item.

The most common cause of scapular winging is serratus anterior paralysis.Many of the causes are serious and some just result in damage to the nerve that many improve. Phy therapy may be of help.
