Hernia?: If you lie flat on your back, with legs relaxed but flexed, does the "lump" eventually disappear? If so, it is most likely a hernia and should be evaluated by a surgeon. If not or unsure, see your dr or urgent care for evaluation and referral prior to onset of problems.

Inguinal lymph nodes: Most guys have a few, especially if they go barefoot outside. If they're really big or are fixed to the surrounding structures, they might be worth having your physician see them.

Examination right away: Numerous lumps in your groin, some painful, probably indicate an infection but could be relatively benign or from a number of different potentially serious problems ranging from a sexually transmitted disease to malignancy. A physical examination is recommended right away.

Also common: Either way this needs to be seen by a surgeon. He will decide if this is a hernia or enlarged lymph node. Again either way you may require surgery to make the diagnosis.

Probably lymph nodes: If this is something that just recently showed up, the lumps are most likely lymph nodes if they are located along the inguinal fold/canal.  Epidermal inclusion cysts are also common in the groin, but are usually hard, not soft, and infected cysts/furuncles are usually tender.  See a Dr if they don't go away or start enlarging an/or multiplying.

That : That is something that needs to be checked.  We have lymph nodes in our groin (just like the nodes that enlarge in your neck when you have a sore throat).  Usually it is caused by infection but other diagnosis are possible.  Please make an appointment with your doctor to have this evaluated.  If you have increased swelling, increased pain, fever, or feel "flu like", then you would need to be evaluated immediately.

Possible hernia: The symptoms you describe suggest a hernia, abscess or cyst.  Please see your physician as soon as possible.

Cyst, gland or node: Sore hard lumps are worrisome, especially those in the groin area as they can represent swollen lymph nodes. Lumps that move are less likely to be cancer. Cysts &amp; glands can also get clogged, even infected. Apply warm compresses to (possible) infections (ice packs to injuries). If not better, go see your Family Doc for evaluation. If worse before then, go to nearest urgent care.

this morning while showering i found a lump in my groin  it doesn't hurt.  i am male age 66.  i have an appointment for tomorrow to have my gp look at it.  cause?  how worried should i be?

Agree look at: Most likely a hernia, but could be testicular cancer, etc.  Agree with a physical examination to direct further investigation and therapy.  If a hernia may or may not need surgery.
