Lump on neck: needs to be examined by your doctor.  It MAY be a sebaceous cyst which are common on neck and shoulders.  Be sure of what you are dealing w/by seeing you doc.  Peace and good health.

Time for a biopsy: This needs to be biopsies. You have not stated if this was done.  I am not sure what test but need to see an ENT for eval and removal.  If this has not been considered it should be One other thing is make sure the rest of your body is ok by a good physical as this could be related to a more serious problem

hard and painful neck mass for over 2.5 months on left side. ultrasound revealed a "calcified " mass. and blood tests were normal. neck hurts and slightly swollen lymph nodes on left side. pain radiating from ear to collar bone. heat/ pain in ears?

: I would think the next step would be a CT scan of the neck.  Findings indicate a chronic process.  Concern would be for malignancy of the left lobe of the thyroid gland. A biopsy will most likely be recommended to obtain a tissue diagnosis.  An experienced head and neck surgeon should be involved in your care.

Lymph node: There are thousands of lymph node located around the body that help screen out germs in the body serum. There are many in the neck, head ; behind the ear. At rest these are often 1/4 inch in diameter and may grow to marble sized when reacting to a stimulus. Bug bites, or viral infections can increase their size.They should shrink  down to nl size over a few wks if pain not gone then have it chkd.

Need to see doctor: A doctor should probably look at the lump on your neck. Depending on any other symptomss and how the lump looks, he or she may watch and / or treat it with antibiotics. The only way to diagnose hodgkin lymphoma for sure is to biopsy it.  Tsh has to do with the thyroid gland, and has nothing to do with hodgkin's. Your doctor should further evaluate your thyroid gland.

how to tell when a lump in the neck is a swollen lymph node or something else? my lump is not sore either. on left side only!

Get examined: I believe these are reactive or benign reactions to your previous story of runny nose but since it is low on neck and on left, have a clinic doc examine that for you. The definite way to tell noninvasively is by radiologic imaging or even a biopsy But those procedures are only planned if your clinic doc saw your person, evaluated your lump and decides. We can not tell by just reading your notes.

Depends: This could be cyst, mole or any lymph nodes. Please see a doctor to get it checked.

A cyst or node: Epidermal inclusion ( sebaceous) cysts and lipomas often occur here. Could also be a lymph node, but if not enlarging is not of concern.

Normal lymph node: We have lymph nodes scattered throughout our body & they are often detected in the neck where they sit on top of neck muscles. These nodes are little fluid strainers that take body lymph & remove stray germs and debris from things like bug bites. They are often pea sized at rest & grow to dime sized when working. Within 2-3 wks they often shrink back down unless they are stimulated further.
