male 53, achy "dragging sensation" armpits but no swelling or lumps, mainly right armpit, sometimes left armpit too, sometimes pain on inside of arm. light rash on front of neck below beard line. could this be cervical stenosis?

Dragging sensation: This is a nonspecific symptom and not characteristic of stenosis of the spinal canal at the cervical level. My sense is there is some muscular or ligamental component to your symptoms. A careful examination of the axillae(armpits) would check for any masses or pathological lymph glands and give you peace of mind. I don't think there is any relationship to the light neck rash.

large, moveable, flesh colored lump in left armpit. not hot or red. starting being painful sporadically and now moreso. found it a year ago.  24 f?

Enlarging cyst: A moveable lump in left armpit not nodal in origin.  Most likely skin appendage.  Common source is an enlarging sebaceous cyst filled with necrotic sebaceous material.  At times a sweat gland tumor can look this way.  Have lesion checked to see if it is cystic and if so the lesion with capsule must be removed by excision.  If not cyst then evaluation as to  need for bx must be made.

hard on the outside red lump in left armpit, 16 yrs old, been there for 4/5 months, sometime painful. saw 3 doctors none are to sure what it is. ideas?

Axillary adenopathy: A single isolated enlarged lymph node would be the most likely finding, but to be certain it may have to be biopsied. Cat scratch disease is a common cause of this, as are other infectious disorders. If you have been seen by 3 docs without a diagnosis, suggest you see an infectious diseases expert. Hope this is diagnosed and treated soon.  Best wishes.

it's 1.10 years since my last risk. i tested hiv -ve in elisa, westblot, p24, hiv proviral-dna pcr.now, i got small lump in left armpit. should i test?

I'm not worried: A single guy with a social life does well to get checked for HIV yearly just as a courtesy to those who he may date during the year to come. But I'm not worried about the lymph node. That can be from a hangnail or a blister or scratch working on your car motor. Remember "your last risk" as a time when you shared love, treasure it and learn, and love safely and well.

felt lump in left armpit.  doc says he feels no lump but based on tenderness it is inflamed.  he is sending me for ultrasound.  what would cause this?

Blocked sweat gland: The most common reason is a blocked sweat gland. They can become painful but can usually be easily treated. The ultrasound is to see if the area has a collection of fluid that can be drained. A good idea. If so, draining is a good idea. If no fluid, then usually start antibiotic to treat probable infection in the blocked duct. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Armpit lump.: Generally, this would be one of three things: (1) impacted hair follicle, (2) lymph node, or (3) Hidradenitis.  The first two issues are fairly benign and would respond to just time and perhaps warm soaks - they'd be about the size of a pea.  Hidradenitis is more dramatic and larger in scale in the armpit - this could be a rather significant bacterial infection.

Breast tissue/glnd : In that location the most common lump would be an enlarged lymph gland. One rare possibility would be stray breast tissue. If you draw a semicircle from the armpit thru the nl breast location along the mid belly to the groin on the same side, you have the line where accessory nipples(usually duds) may be found. I had one mom that had an accessory breast tissue in both pits arise after delivery.

Doctor can examine: Lumps in the armpit skin of a teen or adult can be due to ingrown hairs or blocked oil (sebaceous) glands. If a lump hurts, it may be infected and would need antibiotics or need to be cut open by a doctor, depending on how it looks. Lumps deeper in the armpit may be enlarged lymph nodes, which can be infection or rarely cancer. The ER can help if one's doctor is not available.

? Clogged gland: Could be a clogged sweat gland. Try avoiding stick deodorants and using warm compresses to see if it resolves. If not recommend medical evaluation

Left armpit lump : Having a left armpit lump could be normal if you are feeling soft tissue.  It is abnormal if you are feeling a lymph node.  Lymph nodes swell from infection and tumors.  See your doctor for history and physical exam.  Many times this is the best plan.  You doctor will follow you for life.  That's what they do best.  Hope this helps.
