Lymph node: You probably have a lymph nose on the mastoid process. A bony part behind the ear. Have an ENT look at it. They will sort the problem out. Good luck!

The fact it's been there for 5 yr leads me to believe it is not too serious, but get it removed.

They range from benign (like lymph nodes responding to an infection, cysts, or non-cancerous tumors) to serious conditions. Your doctor, after doing a history and physical exam can help you and recommend a specialist if needed.
