Healing time 4 nerve: An RFA is a radio-frequency ablation, meaning the nerves may not grow back after such a procedure.  Keep in mind that a nerve may "heal" about 1 cm (0.4 inches) per month.  Sometimes we give healing about 6-18 months to occur before we determine a nerve may not heal afterwards.

lower lumbar operation, i have had nerve shots and nerves burnt in my back and i'm taking pain pills,  is there anything else i could do?

Yes: consider a spinal cord stimulation trial or implantable drug delivery system trial if all other conservative interventions have failed

i had a lumbar puncture and the nurse caught the nerve twice. if i have an epidural in the future will this affect my nerves or anything?

Accepted Answer

Lumbar puncture: This is unclear. An LP should not be done near any nerve root, but below the point at which the spinal cord ends in the subarachnoid space, specifically so that there is no damage done. In any event, if you have recovered it is doubtful that this will interfere with a future epidural should you need one. Good luck.

Lumber nerves.: 5 sets of nerves ( one on each side, r & l) from each of the 5 lumber vertebral level. The lower ones, along with the upper sacral ones, combine to make the sciatic nerve.

Maybe: There are different kinds of "cysts" but the most common "cyst" in the lumbar spine that causes is a pinched nerve is a synovial cyst.  This is and inflammatory cyst that causes symptoms of a pinched nerve.  Surgery is sometimes indicated for large, painful cysts that are unresponsive to nonsurgical treatments like pt and injections.

Decompression: Non surgical lumbar decompression is a form of traction therapy. In the lumbar area this is accomplished  by pulling a pelvic harness in opposite direction away from a thoracic harness. Your neck  or cervical area should not be affected.

Radiculopathy: After one year, the fusion is complete in most cases.  Persistent pain or numbness may indicate nerve irritation due to impingement of the nerves, hardware irritation of the nerves, or a failure of the bones to fuse. See your spine surgeon to evaluate the persistent pain and numbnesd.

No: But a few thousand dollars later the overall result will likely be the same as with conservative therapy. Find a board certified pain physician and insist on comprehensive treatment which includes physical therapy.
