good day, i have had lower back pain for years and recently my neck started giving me problems. my left hand/arm is partially numb and my left leg is starting. mri show bulging disks and nerver irritation however neurosurgeon gave me clonazepam????

Spine pain /abn MRI: Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine  - which can relax muscles., For severe pain/spasm  Valium/ diazepam is sometimes given . But  more information is needed like the degree of bulge/location..  Would also consider EMG/NCS that can tell if and how severe  nerve function is affected which would correlate with  "numbness" . Discuss PT(physical  therapy) / traction. F/u/w/ neurology

Could be referred : Low back pain with radiation down one side of the leg could be due to a pinched nerve. If you injured your back, strained muscles of the back and hip can irritate a nerve or cause a herniated disc which pinches the nerve. Fortunately this can be resolved non-operatively in most cases. Moist heat, light stretching and over the counter anti-inflammatory medications may help. Persists? See you doctor.

Evaluation: A doctor will need to evaluate your leg urgently. Your long road trip soon after major surgery makes you high risk for a blood clot in the leg called a DVT. This needs prompt evaluation

Lame leg back pain: Back and leg pain can occur independently. Does the pain in back occur simultaneously with 'lame' leg? Was there trauma? Are there any other conditions?  Leg pain, numbness, tingling, radiating down the leg could stem from a disc issue—either bulging, herniation. etc. Lame is a vague description. Not enough information. See your neurologist, orthopedist, or primary doc-

: You should see a doctor for these symptoms which are somewhat uncommon but definitely abnormal. A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis with IV contrast and a full bladder should be considered as the initial work-up.

Needs further tests!: Pain medication is symptomatic only and not a "Treatment"! There are a myriad of causes of back pain. An experienced physician and appropriate testing will diagnose the etiology of the problem then treatment can be tailored for the cause.

Spondylitis: You likely have spondylitis. This issues is best treated by a rheumatologist. I urge you to see one.

Symptoms: If not for vomiting and back pain, i would bet on anxiety for the rest, but with those present, i would suggest viral illness, such as stomach flu or another viral disease.

Greatly doubt: It would be very surprising to have a brain tumor announce itself as low back / musculoskeletal-type pain.  Finding the cause of low back pain / leg weakness is tricky and generally requires a specialist despite its being extremely common.

Iliohypogastric n?: Something may be irritating the ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric, or genitofemoral nerve (an MD exam will tell). X-rays do not, in general, show spinal cord compression-only if there has been trauma. Even nerve compression "seen" on X-ray or CT/MRI is over-diagnosed &amp; often isn't the problem (surgery for impinged nerves causes more pain than it cures). Ur best bet is rehab therapy &amp; bk exercises TTYD
