Possible bleeding: If you have actually torn the tendon or muscle, with gravity some of the potential bleeding may move down the arm and show up at the wrist.

Trigger finger?: Your description is somewhat vague, however it sounds like trigger finger.  If you have had injections with only temporary relieve, you might be a candidate for a very simple procedure.  See you doctor or a hand specialist for more information.

Blood thinners?: If your wife is taking anything that may "thin her blood"like warfarin, aspirin, vitamin e, she may be showing side effects of these agents. Best to check with her physician to make sure.

: Green is one of the colors in the healing of a bruise. Keep a diary to see if you can figure out what proceeds the bruise. Using elbows instead of shaking hands.;-)

Medical attention: If your arm is swollen, please see your doctor right away.  This might be early for an infection, but the arm needs to be evaluated SOONer.  If there is fever, consider going to ER.

Consider ulnar nerve: There are many possible causes of pain in the forearm and wrist, most of them do not involve nerves.  If you mean the side of the forearm on the same side as the little finger, consider ulnar nerve.  If you mean the thumb side or palm side, consider median nerve (carpal tunnel).  Strain, joint pain, "tennis elbow" are all possible causes. Get an exam if it persists beyond 2 weeks.
