Likely viral illness: The lymphocytes come up percentage wise in many viral illnesses. A mild elevation of the platelets is a non-specific indicator of stress common with an illness.

my child's bloodwork came back with 600,000 platelets, amylase 133,000
wbc 13,200 crp 4.7 and monocytes high. lymph nodes in neck dr said all is good and sent me home. low iron as well ?

The amylase number doesn't quite make sense, but the rest could be infection or some other process, definitely abnormal. Depends a lot on age of your child, and of course on physical exam and your history. I'd look for a second opinion if your child is sick. Good luck!!

Follow up: The best answer i can give is to be sure to follow up with appointments and blood tests.  There could be a number of reasons for low white blood count, some of them serious and some not, and the best thing one can do is to be sure the child has close follow-up with the pediatrician.  If the cause is known to be an immune deficiency, then keeping good hygiene is very important.

One possibility: Ask your physician which of your white cell types is low (lymphocytes or neutrophils). These are really meaningful only if the absolute count of one of the other is way-low. The first thing that pops into my mind to rule out is lupus -- it famously makes it difficult to carry a pregnancy, and can lower the count of one of your white cell types. This may be a heads up. Hope your dreams come true.

Yes: Dexamethasone causes extra neutrophils to enter the circulating blood. The white counts fluctuate wildly even from hour to hour even in health.

I am so sorry: I too have lost a son and have many questions.  Believe me - there are no adequate answers.  AML is a horrible disease.  Rarely is there good outcome.  Rarely is there reason or cause.  Rarely is there cure.  Many present so severe no treatment would be adequate.  This was probably true in her case.  Write down your questions and go to her doctor and request a long talk.  You should get answers.

i am certain i have a blood cancer. i was exposed to a lot of formaldehyde as a child. almond size lumps all over body, discoloration around eyes. what specific leukemia and lymphoma does that chemical cause? wbc 3.2. young male. symptoms 2 years.

Get studied: This site does not offer diagnosis or treatment. Formaldehyde may or may not be an issue. It is one of many breakdown products of alcohol ingestion so many are exposed through life. If this is interfering with your enjoyment of life get a good workup done. A WBC as listed is not specific for anything.
