Better than high!!: We really concentrate on whether our patients have high cholesterol or triglyceride levels as those predispose patients to developing heart disease and stroke.Having low cholesterol and triglycerides in my patient would generally please me greatly!Often this is due to a very good, healthy,balanced diet,and often consistent exercise,and generally taking good care of yourself. Good genes help too!

Probably genetic: I would not worry about the low triglycerides - that is a goo thing. The high cholesterol is most likely determined by genes, though thyroid, liver and kidney disease can rarely contribute. You should have these conditions excluded, and your HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels checked. If the LDL cholesterol is high then you may need treatment depending on your medical and family history.

Lipid Abnormalities: Bad is not a common word we use in medicine.  This scenario is a very common type of cholesterol problem. The biggest issues with these numbers are that your lifestyle numbers--the numbers you can change--are all out of whack and putting you in danger.  Eating right, exercising correctly and limiting your sugars will lower the triglycerides and raise the hdl. This is vital for you at your age.

Hypertriglyceridemia: ARE  KNOWN , SEPARATE LIPID DISORDERS some of which are FAMILIAL and ALL OF WHICH must be treated just as aggressively as CHOLESTEROL problems!

No. Low LDL is good.: Try raising HDL. Look for foods with monounsaturated fats (olive oil, etc.). Read up on such foods on nutrition websites. Avoiding sugars and simple starches should help raise HDL (good cholesterol). Fruits have a lot of sugar, and most breads are simple starches. Protein such as chicken breast, pork loin (whiter meat), and tofu can be eaten instead of carbs. Exercising will also raise the HDL.

OK: Although your LDL is borderline (130 to 159)  your HDL is protective. Some things to consider would be taking some garlic, niacin or flax seed or fish oil daily.  If you do not eat oat meal this is a very good food to help reduce lipids. A low glycemic diet (Mediterranean is good example) would help. Exercise is good especially try to incorporate high intensity sessions  weekly.
