Low IgA and IgG: It depends how low and if she is past infancy and if she is having recurrant respiratory or urinary symptoms. Then she should see an immunologist.

Hypoimmuneglobulinem: First question to you is: why your one year old was diagnosed with low immunoglobulins? Next question is: how is he being treated? Is he receiving IV igg? Now lastly, is he under care of a pediatric immunologist in an academic institute?

That is low: When a patient has a deficiency of IgA immunoglobulin, it is called selective IgA deficiency.  It is the most common immunodeficiency i see in children, adults can have it too.  A consult with an allergist/immunologist is suggested.

Family practice : Your son has immunoglobulin deficiency  it's harder for him to fight off infections. Your dr may refer him to see an endocrinologist to receive immunoglobulin injections.

See below: Great resource is primaryimmune.Org which is the immune deficiency foundation. In general, IgA is one the most common pidd. Iga is the antibody that is made in the blood and then secreted to the mucous membranes. Alot of people have IgA deficiency and have no problems. Those with symptoms general have sinus infections. There is no replacement therapy for IgA deficiency.

It depends: Symptome severity varies tremendously from individual to indivudual. Iga deficiency id not a single disease. Therefore you best bet would be to speak to your docotr, hopefully, a pediatric immunonogist, and ask to see if there is any prophylaxis for infections.

doctor ordered spep due to celiac test last year showed iga 525. i did not have celiac. the spep showed elevated beta globulin 2 0.6 and my igm was low 39. she then ordered immunofix no protein. i had radioactive iodine 30mci april 20 concerned?

: Radio-iodine treatment would not affect the results of immunofixation. An elevated IgA can be due to number of GI disorders. Your doctor is trying to exclude a monoclonal IgA that can be an indication of a neoplastic process.

Reason for testing: What was the reason for testing to start with?   were you suspecting some kind of immune problem? Repeat the test in another lab first before judging, selective IgA deficiency is not uncommon, and not dangerous, many people do have it with normal healthy life, check with an allergist/Immunologist for better understanding, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, take care
