Yes: Depends on what the major surgery was. Surgery itself can naturally result in some blood loss and the body recovering from the surgical stress may take longer to build new red blood cells. Ask your surgeon if you are concerned.

wife had a c section and her incision area is very bruised almost black at the bottom. it isnt tight. how would you know if there was internal bleeding? her hemoglobin came 9.2 after surgery then 5.5 sat after. got transf went 7.5? no pain or sympto?

: The wound has to be carefully examined by the MD who did the surgery who may additional tests eg Ct scan or Ultrasound

Low iron : Bariatric surgery reduces the bodies capacity to absorb nutrients including iron which is required to make hemoglobin. Many women are borderline anemic anyway if they have heavy periods for example & this can tip them over. You should take supplements after bariatric surgery.

No: It would have been helpful to have the actual results of your hemoglobin and platelet count. Slightly low may not be worrisome.

Many possibilities: While it is possible that the low haemoglobin is related to the hysterectomy, most patients recover to relatively normal levels within a few months of surgery. Late bleeding from a hysterectomy is fairly rare. You did not indicate the reason for the hysterectomy. If it was for non-cancer reasons, your mother's haemoglobin should have resolved by now. I would encourage her to have this evaluated.

Ask your doctor: Depends upon: 1) how elective is the surgery, 2) the degree of anemia 3) are you bleeding - and will the surgery correct the bleeding, 4) your overall health, 5) the nature and complexity of the surgery, 6) the likelihood that delaying surgery will increase your blood count.

Post op anemia: Most likely is a reflection of some blood loos during the surgery, which is not unusual. It takes around 3 months for your blood levels to normalize. At this point it is very unlikely that your anemia is due to some sort of vitamin deficiency. I would not worry about. Just continue taking your vitamin supplements. And follow up labs in a few months.

Anemia: Ferrous sulfate 325mg three times daily. Note may upset stomach better to take with food. Also can cause constipation.

can  a surgery be done with 5 of hemoglobin?  what alternatives are there to operate considering  there are two tumors with hemmorraghe?

Blood tx prior surg: You should get blood transfusion to increase your hemoglobin in a safer level. Surgery can be done- however we try to minimize the possible complication as much as possible. If the tumors are actively bleeding, multiple blood transfusion need to be given before, during and perhaps after surgery. But, yes the best thing to correct the anemia in this case is by stopping the bleeding.
