You mean "bloating?": The GI tract has a very limited # of symptoms to signal its distress--nausea/vomiting, diarrhea/constipation, bloating, pain, fullness, bleeding, etc. As you know, many of these characterize ibs, but are also seen with inflammatory, infectious, ischemic, malabsorptive, and functional disorders. Directed lab work, imaging, biopsies, stool studies are appropriate in excluding non-ibs pathology.

my boyfriend is 43 hes always been normal he does eat a lot of sugar but recently his stomach is like bloated and it got big and its hard to touch but dont hurt what could it be he has no known medical issues?

LLQ pain: Pain in the left lower quadrant (lower belly on your left side) can be from constipation or food intolerance, more rarely from foodborne infection or diverticulitis.  In women, ovary pain or UTI can cause LLQ pain.  If fever, vomiting or diarrhea occur and persist, a doctor has to check this.  If signs are mild, it&#x27;s important to drink plenty of fluid and eat foods that contain some fiber.

Change in bowels: Change in bowels is a red-flag to doctors that evaluation is needed.  You did not specify whether your concern reflects a change in stool texture, altered ease or completeness of elimination, frequency of stooling, or what about your bowel habits has changed.
