You can, but don't: People are in charge of the pills they take, but taking these together isn't wise. The sedative properties of Ambien (zolpidem) and Lorazepam augment each other and could be a dangerous combination.  Please don't take them at the same time.

That's a lot...: of tranquilizer for the day. There are better ways to treat anxiety than making a zombie out of yourself with continuous tranquilizer use day and night.

Since rebound : Insomnia should really be the only concern, a trial with Ambien (zolpidem) could certainly be warranted. Beware of the potential risk of amnesia with Ambien (zolpidem) however. This would include sleepwalking sleep talking sleep cooking or even sleep driving. Best wishes. I had recommended the taper so as to diminish the impact of the rebound insomnia predominantly. Whatever you take will need to cover the rebound insomnia.

i want to stop taking so many meds. have severe insomnia and some anxiety. i take 150 trazadone, 10 ambien, (zolpidem) and .5 lorazepam nightly. how do i do this?

Oh my gosh, it: Really wouldn't be ethical for any of us to jump in and direct treatment. This should be done under the supervision of the physician who is treating you. I will however provide some sleep tips that might help. 1. Keep regular bed ; wakening time (includes weekends). Get up same time daily. 
2. Make a regular, relaxing bedtime routine: warm bath or shower, aromatherapy, reading, or listening to &gt;.

Sleep meds: Chronically taking Ativan is not a good idea.   If you are already on ativan,  adding Ambien (zolpidem) for sleep is duplicating a medication.   Also if you are taking Ativan during the day you should not be driving.   This is the equivalent of dui,  with all of its risks and rewards.

Hypnotics: "hypnotic" drugs are prescribed specifically to induce sleep.  Ambien (zolpidem) is one.  Lorazepam is a short-acting benzodiazepine with multiple uses.  In low doses it can be helpful in anxiety, and in higher doses can also induce sleep.  You would not prescribe Ambien (zolpidem) for basic anxiety, though.  All the hypnotics can be habit forming.  Non-drug methods are the first step in situational anxiety.

Overdoing Medicine: I would imagine the combination of these pills really knocked you for a loop. That is like having drunk three bottles of wine all at once. Please do not continue taking these together or alone in any frequent way. If you stay away from them your brain should be just fine.

Dizziness : These could be medication side effect but they are transient  and should be resolved within 10-12 hours.

Calming: Lorazepam might be temporarily prescribed early in the course of taking venlafaxine.  At a low dose, the Lorazepam would be calming along with the venlafaxine.  Used too much or too often, Lorazepam could cause confusion or memory lapses.  Please ask your own prescribing doctor about any concerns with combining these medicines.
