can i still get a thigh lift if i have high blood pressure? my high blood pressure is controlled with medication (i take lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) now). am i still a good candidate for a thigh lift?

You : You should be able to have a thigh lift if your blood pressure is well-controlled on your blood pressure medication.  Patients who have uncontrolled high blood pressure may even run higher right after surgery and the risks of bleeding and having to go back to the or to evacuate a hematoma or blood collection are greater.  Therefore, you will want to make sure that your lood pressure is well-controlled in advance of your surgery.  I would suggest getting your regular physician to check into that, and perhaps monitor your blood pressure on a few occasions to account for any variability.

Almost always: The active ingredient is identical. The only difference is the formulation, toprol (metoprolol) being a gradual (extended) release form. Since slow release avoids the peaks and valleys of the medication concentration in your blood, it's usually better tolerated than the shorter acting form.

Probably neither: I am not a big fan of beta blockers for hypertension, but if you have no other choice, the  better option would probably be toprol xl as atenolol is not a once a day drug.  The carrier for your drug is likely what you're allergic to, not the drug itself, explaining the reason why you're allergic to metoprolol and not lopressor (metoprolol tartrate).

Long & short of it: Generic toprol XL is metoprolol succinate. Generic Lopressor is metoprolol tartrate. Toprol is the long acting formulation of same medication. So if you want short acting for part of the day when the medicine is needed, use lopressor.

It : It depends on what your heart rate and blood pressure are since this medication affects both. There are some patients on 75mg and others who can't tolerate more than a very small dose. If your heart rate and blood pressure were already low to begin with then you may have problems. The symptoms to watch for are lightheadedness, dizziness, loss of consciousness, or excessive fatigue. The medication typically lasts around 12 hours. Certainly if you are having any of the above symptoms you should seek medical attention and do not drive. If you are concerned you can also call you primary physician's office who should have someone on call to speak with. You can also call your local poison control center.

It : It is unlikely that a single dose of 25 mg will cause any significant problem.  Monitor your heart rate.  If it becomes dramatically lower than usual or if you develop any dizziness, lie down and have someone drive you to be evaluated.  If ther is no one to drive you, call 911.

Possibly: Bradycardia = heart rate &lt;50/min.  Lopressor may be causing the slow heart rate but  can be other serious causes:
