A member asked:

I was on lopressor 25 mg 2 x daily. now i'm on toprol (metoprolol) 50 mg xr. if i tolerated the lopressor well, them i'll tolerate the toprol (metoprolol) well to right?

Almost always: The active ingredient is identical. The only difference is the formulation, toprol (metoprolol) being a gradual (extended) release form. Since slow release avoids the peaks and valleys of the medication concentration in your blood, it's usually better tolerated than the shorter acting form.
