May be shingles: End-stage renal disease is immune compromising, which can predispose to shingles outbreaks, so might be that--which you need to tell your nephrologist about, as may transmit to others at dialysis. Could be other things as well for same reason, so really needs dr's evaluation.

Poison Ivy possibly: Many different things can cause skin reactions like this. In a healthy 17 year old poison ivy (or similar plant) is high on the list. The only way to be sure is to have an evaluation by your M.D. And review with them what you may have been exposed too.

: It is usually painful so if you do not have pain, the diagnosis may be inaccurate. If you have pain, it can be treated with OTC analgesics such as Aleve, Advit, etc. Not everyone will a narcotic pain pill be prescribed. Was antiviral therapy, Acyclovir or Famvir, prescribed?

One side of the body: If the rash is confined to one side of the body and does not cross the mid-line either on the back or on the front, it is likely to be shingles. It would be prudent to see a doctor to prevent the development of a chronically painful condition.

: Shingles is not passed from one to another like a sore throat. The germ causes chickenpox, and someone exposed to the debris from the sores could get chickenpox if they never had it. It is not passed in the air like chickenpox and once the wounds have dried out &amp; healed there is no further risk.

Question?: what are you asking? I would suggest that a recurring rash that has been ongoing for 12 years should be evaluated by a board certified dermatologist.

Well herpes zoster: of shingles is a very distinctive distribution. I would see a board certified dermatologist for diagnosis.

Maybe. Maybe not.: Best to take serial pictures of what happens to that spot. A person can have shingles more than once. Her primary care doctor can check to see if there is a weakness in her immune system (or just bad luck, older age, or other bodily stressors) that allows her to have shingles. The doctor can give some advice on whether or not the patient should get the shingles vaccine to help prevent recurrences.

hi....i just want to know if one is having flu like symptoms and there is like two pimples on my back is that necessarily considered shingles? i have a baby who is almost 2months old will this affect her badly if it is shingles.....no pain

Not necessarily: Two pimples on your back is likely 2 pimples on your back. Shingles are usually clusters of blisters when they erupt, only on one side of the body (don't cross the middle). It it were it is unlikely to effect baby. The germ from shingles is only spread from contaminants of the blisters. If you had chickenpox as a kid or the vaccine, the baby would have your immunity anyway.
