Often none: Depends on why the surgery is being done. Usually surgery for gallstone problems resolves the pain & nausea. Usually everyone goes back to eating normally and functioning normally without any problems or dietary issues. Removing a normally functioning gallbladder may create digestion problems though.

Gallbladder: Cholecystectomy is typically very well tolerated without complications. Rare complications can include bile duct injury or liver injury. May have some diarrhea after the procedure.

Few: After a cholecystectomy, some people initially have a hard time digesting fatty foods, but most have no noticeable effects on digestion, other than absence of the right upper quadrant pain they used to get.  

After splenectomy you are prone to a couple of specific infections, so it is important to be immunized (pneumovax, h. Influenzae b, meningococcal).

Depends: We do not remove normal functioning gallbladders as there can be a lot of indegestion, fatty food intolerance, abdominal cramping & diarrhea. But, surgery to remove abnormal gallbladders can relieve painful problems from gallstones usually with little or no intestinal side effects. This is likely because the body has been adjusting for a long time to a gallbladder that has not been working.

Not at all: The gallbladder is not a vital organ. We restrict diet to low fat only in the pre op condition. Once the gallbladder is removed we lift all restrictions, allowing all types of foods, including pizza, cheese, etc. Some people have temporary urgency in the early post op period, which is self limited. You don't have to avoid fatty foods. Good luck.

Not usually: However, the symptoms you are having are related to fertile women who have had the weight loss and weight gain associated with pregnancy.  It sounds like you may have something called bile reflux.  Discuss this with your doctor.

got off  paxil (paroxetine) after 8 years.year later had gallbladder removed.now have severe anxiety again.should i get back on meds.dont like side effects though.?

Viable Options : Anxiety can be effective and equally  treated with either / combination of cognitive behavioral therapy or/and medications. It however best for you to see a competent clinician to appropriately evaluate you and recommend treatment. Wish you well.

Remove gallbladder: The only effective treatment for patients with symptomatic gallbladder disease with stones is to remove the gallbladder.  You create stones due to an abnormal mixture of your fats and bile salts, and frequently genetic predisposition to lithogenic bile.  A small percentage of people have loose stools for a short time after gallbladder removal.

i have been prescribed an anti-inflammatory. i have a history of gallbladder problems. as well as gallstones.  i do not want the medication to stir my problems up again.  i have heard the side effects can be brutal on the stomache and digestive system.
