: Always need normal values for the tests.  Different in UK sometimes. Check meds you are taking by going to Drugs.com and look for liver effects. Also discuss with your Dr how much alcohol you drink a day or week. Cheers.

They should be norma: The normal levels are under 50 units. But this is a very sentive test. It takes a minor liver damage and the enzymes can go up into  value of 100s.

Liver injury: ALT high indicates liver injury which can be caused by numerous chemical, physical and microbial agents. Your level is not very high and such can be seen in fatty liver or alcoholism among other things

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if you drink alcohol stop entirely, if you are overweight, lose weight, if you have diabetes, control blood glucose.

It means...: It means that your liver is mildly inflamed and what you have been recommended is the right thing to do.
Do not panic, please...  this is so common and it does not mean it is serious

It is 1 point: above normal. Probably not significant. Have your Dr recheck it in few months. If higher,then something is wrong and needs investigation.

recently i had abnormal results on a liver function test. ast = 215 / alt = 135. drinking is the issue. i don't think i can stop cold turkey. will the liver still be able to heal if i cut back by say 95%? or is abstinence required for liver to heal?

: Cutting by 95% is better than current practice. You should try to quit alcohol entirely. Do not take acetaminophen (Tylenol). 
Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level.

liver function test results: ggt 90 u/l. all other indicators including bilubrin, alt, ast, proteins etc are well in normal range please advise on ggt?

GGT: The GGT level, when elevated with all of the rest of the liver tests being completely normal, is usually nonspecific and does not necessarily mean that liver disease is present. All I would do initially is repeat those tests in 2 to 3 months. If it is still elevated, you should consider seeing a gastroenterologist just to be sure that nothing is wrong. Good luck.

recently had my blood work done nevertheless my liver function was too high alt(105) ast(85) akaline (118) i do take 20 mg of lisinopril and 5mg amlodipine and i was on 500 mg of amoxicillin should i be concerned or was the increase of enzyme is due?

: Those can happen in acute illness when you are treated with antibiotic. I have prescribed lisinopril and amlodipine for many years but I never encountered a case with this side effect but it does not mean it won't happen. After you are done with the acute illness and off ampicillin for 2 weeks, liver function test should be rechecked. If abnormality persists, med change + work-up are required.
