Can you clarify?: If lung cancer has spread to remote lymph nodes or to the liver, there won't be a cure, but the quality of life can be maintained for months or perhaps years. If these are separate cancers, arising independently, cure is unlikely but not out of the question.

6% survival at 5 yrs: Your friend is stage iv.
Overall survival rate is 6% at five years from time of diagnosis. 
His actual life expectency is related to many factors and should be discussed with his treating physician.

Worrisome: The multiple organ systems involved in your note suggest both a primary cancer from some location and secondary spread to the lungs/liver. At first glance that is very worrisome. However, advances in cancer treatment over the past 4 decades has increased their survival chances tremendously. Try to be supportive of the family &amp; don't assume the worst at this point.

Depends: It is not possible to predict the behavior of tumors other than providing averages. Has the tumor been treated? If it was treated and became wide spread while under treatment, the prognosis would be poor.

my aunt was suffering with liver , lungs and bone cancer..in addition to that suffering with jaundice 10th level..how jaundice will be cured ?

Sorry: to tell you but your aunt's jaundice if due to extensive liver lesions may not be reversible. The one EXCEPTION to this 'rule" is if the Jaundice is due to tumor OBSTRUCTING  the bile system. In this case RADIATION treatment may be useful!

Not usually: If the lung pathology was confirmed by  histology then most likely the metastasis are lung origin.
Some other malignancies can be confusing spreading to liver and lung.

is it normal for 4cm nodule to go to full blown lung cancer in and spread to liver in just 4 months?

A 4cm lung "nodule": is a fairly large mass,  it wouldn't become lung cancer, it would have been cancerous all along.  It is certainly possible to develop metastatic disease in 4 months.

Accepted Answer

It depends: That depends on the stage of the cancer and how bad you're cirrhosis is. The treatment for lung cancer varies dependent upon how far the cancer has spread at diagnosis (stage). Certainly cirrhosis may make treatment more difficult, but it does not necessarily mean you can not be treated for lung cancer.  You will need an experienced hepatologist and oncologist.

Bad news: Prognosis is grim, but I would suggest in the interim good symptom control through a palliative care line or hospice care. A variety of factors play in determining life expectancy, that is usually in such cases less than 6 months.

Possible: What you described is not normal, but quite possible. Small cell lung cancers can spread to other organs even before the primary lesion is detected.
