A 4cm lung "nodule": is a fairly large mass, it wouldn't become lung cancer, it would have been cancerous all along. It is certainly possible to develop metastatic disease in 4 months.

Commonplace: I am sorry about the situation. If anyone suggested that someone could ignore ANY lung nodule, let alone a 4 cm one, I am deeply disturbed. Oat cell is usually even faster.
