Second opinion: The doctor patient relationship is very important.  You can start w/getting a second opinion from another doc.  If you are more comfortable w/second or even third doc, then stay w/him or her.  If you don't trust any doc then you would do well to sort that out w/a therapist.  Peace and good health.

my pdoc prescribed me wellbutrin (bupropion) and i take lithium and zoloft. what are the interactions  when i take the meds? what should i expect?

Depends on dose: Zoloft and wellbutrin (bupropion) are moderate, dose-related inhibitors of cyp450 2d6 for which zoloft partly depends upon for its metabolism.  Zoloft usually only inhibits 2d6 at higher doses (150-200mg).  It might be worthy to be genotyped for this enzyme to assure you are a extensive metobolizer (em) type.  Lithium is mostly excreted unchanged by kidneys.  Please follow-up regularly with your doctor.

Bipolar: Lithium can be both good and bad. Please let the doctor who is caring for you know your concerns. Lithium may have an effect on your thyroid or parathyroid gland that needs evaluation. If you can, go online and look up side effects of lithium. Doesn't cause problems often but once is enough.

dlpa supplement interaction i would like to ask a question and i intend to consult with my psychiatrist first but would like a second opinion. i am on lamictal, paxil, lithium and adderall for adhd and a bipolarii. my mood disorder isn't my biggest burden

Hello, : Hello, there seems to be variable input on this issue.  Phenylalanine is an essential Amino Acid which is converted into tyrosine. Tyrosine is then used to produce Dopamine and norepinephrine.  Of course, both of these neurotransmitters are impacted by a number of psychotropic medications.  Dpla is contraindicated with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and reportedly should not be used with atypical antipsychotics. The majority of sites recommended that d.L. Phenylalanine not  be used concurrently with standard antidepressant medications. Several sites recommended that dlpa not be used with Paxil (paroxetine) or with stimulants.   Use of dlpa can be associated with insomnia, headaches and increased blood pressure due to overstimulation of the central nervous system.   I could not find any literature  that addressed using dlpa with lithium.  It should be noted that the fda does not regulate supplements and that dosages of the active ingredients are often not standardized.

Lithium: Common side effect to some forms of lithium, such as the lithium carbonate. Talk to your doctor about possible other forms of lithium such as the long acting lithobid or eskalith. Also, lithium blood levels & serum electrolytes monitoring.

Probably ok: This level is probably ok.  It is a little higher than "norma", but normal is whatever you should have, to treat your symptoms, without causing side effects.  It is nothing to worry about, at least.  The level is dependent on your lithium dose and your other medicines.
