Yes: If by "work well" you mean whether medications don't interact with each other then all medications used for adhd can also be used with medications that are commonly called mood stabilizers used for treatment of bipolar disorder.

Huge!: Antidepressants work on neurotransmitter systems in the brain while add meds work on the reticular activating system.

I think so: I strongly believe that some day there will be serious side effects reporting. Almost never used in europe but widely in us. How can this be? Depends the specific medication but Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) can cause heart attacks and even death. I stop that stuff in most of my patients!

Couple things...: One, adhd has a high association with tic disorders, and many times the treatments can exacerbate, expose or better yet unmask the tics to a degree.  Picking the skin can be one of those nervous type tics that hyperactive people exhibit (or nail or cuticle biting, etc).  Second, , many of the adhd meds are stimulants, same general class as caffeine or nicotine, and stimulants may stimulate tics.

Different people...: ...Respond differently, but at this point vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) seems to offer efficacy and relatively lower abuse potential compared to other meds.

Just like "Speed": Frequently medications used for adhd are stimulants. Brain of those with adhd is different and are slowed down by these medications as opposed to "getting high" which would be reaction if not adhd. Use of these medications if not adhd is not only illegal, but potentially addictive and result in socially inappropriate and possibly life threating behavior.

ADHD Rx: There are three classes: stimulants, nonstimulants, and "off-label" uses of other drugs. 

Stimulants are in either the methylphenidate (ritalin) class, or the amphetamine class.  Common side effects include jitteriness, anxiety, being hyped up, loss of appetite, headaches, etc.  Caution in dosing usually precludes these sxs from developing. 

Nonstimulants are perhaps better tolerated

Several : The main class would be the stimulants.   These would include meds like vyvanse,  concerta, Adderall and focalin (dexmethylphenidate).  The non stimulants include Kapvay and intuniv.  Stratttera, falls into its own category and it is one of a kind.  There is not enough room to discuss in detail but each group works differently. Need to see a medical provider to discuss in more detail.

Yes: Possibly. It depends on the medication. The best course of action is to ask your doctor. Is it a good idea to stop "cold turkey?" in some cases this is ok. In others, it's a really (really!) bad idea. Talk to your doctor. That's the only safe alternative.
