If it is negative, much of the time you can wait through this cycle to see if it is a recurring problem or not, but you should see a doctor if you are having other symptoms also. A lot of things can affect your periods, including various medications and birth control, and the duration is not as significant as the amount and character of the bleeding.

Need more info: Are you on contraception?  Which ?  What medications are you taking?  Are you under a lot of stress right now? Have you been traveling , changing time zones or not sleeping enough? Excessive exercise? These are things that can throw our cycle off and cause mid-cycle bleeding . Good idea 2 check a urine pregnancy test and get screened for STDs if you are at risk

This can be : an expected effect of the morning after pill.  If continues, a pregnancy test can be helpful. If continues, see your doctor, also consider a more consistent contraceptive plan/method.

Need iron replacemen: 52 mg of iron is not an excessive dose. You should see your doctor and get your possible iron deficient anemia worked up. 
Your heavy periods are due to an imbalance of too much estrogen and / or not enough progesterone during the two weeks before you start your period. Ask your pharmacist who uses real progesterone to correct this hormonal imbalance.

Yes: It sounds like you have that?  I'm not sure what the question is.  If you've had it all your 'adult' life, then it's just you.  If you've become much a heavier bleeder than normal that may be due to weight (body fat) gain or a change in diet or hormone therapy.  If you're worried about it or if you're changing a maxi pad or tampon more often than every hour, you should see a doctor.  Good luck.
