why am i getting bouts of lightheadedness, my head feels like it is swimming?

Low blood pressure: A brief sensation of lightheadedness or a faint feeling is most often due to low blood pressure, or to lowering of blood pressure with standing up.  If it happens after standing up, before standing from lying down sit for a moment, and if it happens when standing from sitting, clench your calves before you stand.  Always drink plenty of water.

i've been having lightheadedness for 4 months. i have had mri of the brain, spine, everything's okay. i went swimming, jumped off the diving board, came back up to the surface, i was really dizzy for about a minute. possible inner ear issue? thanks?

: It could very well be an inner ear issue. There are a variety of structures in the inner ear area that are sensitive to position, inflammation, fluid problems and blood pressure problems. You have obviously been examined and referred for the MRI, next step would be to seek the input of an ENT (ears, nose, throat) specialist. There may be some simple interventions that can help.

there is like a pressure in my right side of my head after swimming and i can still feel it today..  is it bad?

Likely Not serious.: Depending on where on the right side of your head your pain is and if you go deep under water when swim (like diving), your symptoms may be due to a sinus headache from change in pressure form going under water.  Try just doing surface swimming with no diving and see if symptoms still occur.  It they do, then seek medical attention.  Take Care!

Aquagenic Pruritus: Aquagenic pruritus is a skin disease characterized by the development of severe itching on contact with water without observable skin lesions. The symptoms may be felt immediately after contact with water and can persist for an hour or longer. In some families, a tendency toward aquagenic pruritus appears to be hereditary.

Yes: Swimming should not alter your complexion. The chlorine in the water may be drying to your skin, but you can rinse off after getting out of the water.

this morning i took a shower and did my usual skin routine then went in the pool. what do i reapply after swimming? do i do my whole routine again? do i just rinse my face? do i just apply a moisturizer?

: Before going to the pool, you should shower and apply sunscreen if in sun. After pool, you should shower again and take care of your skin for rest of the day. Hope it helps.

Alcohol: If you develop a bubble in your ear canal, and your ear drum is intact, a drop or two of rubbing alcohol will break the surface tension of the bubble. If it blocks because of wax, you need to see somebody about removing the wax.

Pool & stuffy noses: While pools are sometimes sources of allergens like molds & pollen (especially if outdoors), most nasal congestion following swimming is likely due to irritants like chlorine, temperature changes from getting in & out of the water, or positional changes (as you swim, blood that normally pools in the legs while upright flows towards the head more easily and fills the nasal tissues).

my ear is plugged up really bad after swimming. any treatments?

Accepted Answer

2 possibilities: Sudden plugging of the ears after swimming very often means impacted wax or the possibility of external otitis, a mild infection of the skin of the ear canal.  My bet is that the water going into the ear canal was absorbed by the wax already in the ear canal and made the blockage worse.  Try hydrogen peroxide for a week, 4 drops 4 times a day, or see an ENT doctor.
