Depends: Carotid arterial disease is a strong marker for heart disease. Your life expectancy will depend on the co-morbid disease you have: especially in your heart, which should be evaluated after you've sufficiently recovered from your stroke.  Good luck, my friend.

This number has been consistent for many years in spite of the marvelous advances in medical and surgical care.  Therefore, stay healthy and see doctor regularly, and maintain normal blood pressure to handle a major risk.

Probably not so good: Please consult your neurologist. Massive occipital stroke is bad and so is aggressive dementia. Stroke alone can cause quality-adjusted life expectancy to drop by about 12 years. Also on the average a patient with dementia lives about 4-5 years after diagnosis. The combination of both is difficult to judge but probably is significant.

my 80 yr old mom was diagnosed with a benign suprasellar meningioma 7 years ago. its now golf ball size, she has blurred vision, memory loss, muscle weakness and she suffered a lacunar stroke. can it be removed, if not what is her life expectancy?

: I believe that only a neurosurgeon can answer your questions after reviewing appropriate tests and examining your Mom. Her attending physician would assess her ability to undergo neurosurgery though.

No not necessarily : If your glaucoma has progressed despite maximally tolerated medical/laser treatment, and your glaucoma doc has recommended surgery, generally this is to stabilize the disease progression. Your quality of vision depends on how much field loss you have in each eye and your visual acuity. As long as your binoc vision (& central vision)remain in tact  your ability to continue with dexterous tasks = ok.

Anything you want -: You can do whatever you want to do -- with and without help as needed.  Listen and follow your heart -- and don't let your mind tell you otherwise -- god bless you friend!
go out and be with people -- don't isolate yourself.  Stroke is an accident -- so it's not your fault and you are going to be ok again.

Depends: Most causes of death after a major stroke are due to complications from the immobility a stroke causes. People that are no longer ambulatory are at risk for pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bed sores, clots in the legs and many other things that can cause serious illness. Even with the best care, any of these things can occur.

: It depends what part of the brain involved in the stroke. The frontal and temporal lobes are the main site for cognitive function and memory. If the stroke does not affect heavily these areas, memory will recover quickly. If the stroke involves the parietal or occipital lobes, memory is preserved.

Not uncommon: Depending on what part of the brain is affected, a stroke can cause weakness, decreased sensation in the face or body, or both. It sounds like your mother's stroke has affected the power of her muscles more than it has affected the pathways responsible for sensation. This is not uncommon.
