was on lexapro 10mg since may, but i have been on 5mg for weeks & have stopped taking it altogether for a couple of days now, can i get withdrawal symptoms? ive been having gas pains every day also diarrhea & nausea could it be from lexapro?

Lexapro: Given you have only been taking 5 mg and have already not been taking  for a couple of days it should not be an issue to stop. I would expect the GI symtpoms to improve in a week. IF worse or fever you should be seen.

Tapering?: 10 mg is about as low as you can go on Lexapro anyway. Please repost and explain what you mean by "tapering."

i've been on lexapro (escitalopram) for a month going from 5 mg to 10 mg a week ago. in the last 2 days i've had bad diarrhea. could lexapro (escitalopram) be cause? will it pass?

Yes, it could: It's common to have slightly looser stools with lexapro, (escitalopram) but sometimes people can get real diarrhea.  It should get better in the next several days, if not, you may need to talk with  your doc about trying a different antidepressant.  It's also possible this is from something else as well.  If it doesn't get better soon, see your doctor.

less than a week: Most symptoms of discontinuing Lexapro (escitalopram) resolve within a week.
The half life of the drug is about 32 hrs.  Other symptoms after stopping the med may include muscular aches, headaches, nausea etc.

"NORMAL" ?: Almost all drugs have side effects. Lexapro can cause in some people diarrhea and nausea. It is a class of drugs called SSRI-- used commonly in US, but can be harmful for long-term health and damaging to the teeth also. Of course, you need to weigh benefits &amp; risks as a whole person, so best to discuss with your prescribing doctor, and see what other options you may have to protect health.

GI upset: There is a possibility that an increased dose led to GI symptoms. However, Lexapro is usually pretty well tolerated. The cause of the GI upset may not be due to Lexapro.  If you have GI upset, take the Lexapro with food. You can talk to your doctor about splititng dose &amp; addition of probiotics can help.

taking prilosec 20mg and lexapro (escitalopram) 5mg for a week. gas and heartburn symptoms. after spinach and pizza last night had yellow to orange soft stools but not diarrhea. is this serious?

Rule out celiac: You cannot afford to not see a physician in this case. You need to have a full work up for causes of diarrhea. In particular however your symptoms sound like you may have celiac disease. You can look up a full description of this on wikipedia.Com. A consultation with a gastroenterologist is warranted as soon as possible.

Escitalopram: Yes, it's a very common side effect. Patients generally acclimate to it over time, sometimes by reducing the dose at first and going slowly up as tolerated or taking it with food. The time frame varies but usually in first 2 weeks. Some can't tolerate the GI symptoms and find another medication. There may be other reasons for your symptoms, so contact your md.
