Most of the time, the mechanisms underlying these symptoms are not serious in nature. However, a complete neurological history and examination in this setting is highly recommended.

Pressure sore.: If you lay on the same side routinely the ear can form a pressure sore, called weinklers nodule.  You should have it checked.  The other possibility could be skin tumor.

Swimming pools?
Perhaps you should let a physician look at your ear to see if anything is wrong.
