Restless?: Are they aching or restless? Do you want to move them? Need to move the legs usually sign of restless legs and can be due to iron deficiency. Cramps can be electrolyte problems like potassium or magnesium issues. If it is pain and you want to dangle your legs off side of bed, may be poor circulation. Hope that helps!

Blood flow: If the pain is in both legs, it's less likely an injury, and it could be alteration of blood flow.  Decreased blood flow in the lower legs can lead to cramps and pain in the region you describe.

Leg cramps: If the symptoms are never present during the day, it is unlikely to be a neurological problem. There are many causes of nighttime leg cramps: idiopathic (no explainable cause), potassium or magnesium or calcium deficiency , &amp; a few others (some basic blood tests can evaluate for these). A trial of a supplement with calcium &amp; magnesium at bedtime for a few weeks plus stretching the calves is good

Leg pain: Would follow up with ER/ urgent care today. Maybe just viral  infection with, pleurodynia( inflammation of lung lining) , or mycoplasma  respiratory  infection which can cause malaise,  UTI vs vaginitis,  or rarely autoimmune disease, or clot ( having it in  both legs is rare) possible associated pericarditis( coxsackie) cariomyopathy,or  rheumatic fever, kawasaki disease. f/u/ today,

See a physician: This could represent pathology within the knee, such as torn cartilage.  Alternatively, pinched nerves in the lumbar spine could also cause pain in the legs.  An evaluation by a physician will give you a better answer.

It would be uncommon to have cysts in both knees, but anything it possible. Knee pain can also be caused from structural problems in the back, hips or ankles/feet. Knee pain: joints creak, snap, pop as we age, joints have fluid in joint space, sometimes a vaccum sets up in joint movement, cracks sound, sometimes loose bodies, sometimes bone spurs...heat, nsaids, stretches, cold packs would help, sometimes massage and calcium for cramps, shin splints
