Accepted Answer

Fistula: Of the leg vessels(peripheral circulation) is not a mistake from cardiac vessel stents(central vascular circulation).  However someone with poor vascular circulation in general often  develops fistulas or collateral circulation.  Ask your cardiologist about statins for secondary prevention.

my brother has blocked carotid arteries and leg veins. can physicians operate on both at the same time?

Not a good idea: Carotid occlusive disease and it's corresponding operation are very serious issues that should not be combined with surgery for varicose veins. Both have a great deal of importance but the more important and serious of the two should be addressed first-carotid endarterectomy. The varicose vein surgery can be done anytime thereafter.

Short Saphenous vein: This vein would be the most likely one that you would easily see. You would not see any arterial structures in the back of the lower leg.

Accepted Answer

Not usually: The popliteal artery and veins run in the depth of the popliteal fossa-  behind the knee between the muscles and tendons.
There  are some anomalies where the vessels run  a different pattern.
The exam is easy.

i have a vein in my left leg that hurts. it is becoming larger and protruding. this vain is on my left leg above my knee on the outside of my leg. is there a major artery there?

Accepted Answer

Vein: I think this is a vein that is becoming larger.  The arteries in this part of the leg mostly run behind your knee.  Sometimes the valves in the veins become leaky and the blood will pool in the veins and cause them to swell as they fill with blood.  Seek medical attention if they remain painful or get larger.

what happens if you get a blood clot in the leg (vein), can it cause a stroke (artery)?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: If you have thrombophlebitis, a clot could go directly to the lung causing a life threatening pulmonary embolism.  But if there is a congenital hole within the heart, such as patent foramen ovale, the embolism can be paroxysmal and go to brain, causing a stroke.  Anti-coagulation can be protective in these circumstances.

Accepted Answer

Rarely: While it is possible for a vein blood clot to travel to the artery side of things, it would have to do this through a hole in the heart, termed an septal defect.  This tests to be rare but can be diagnosed by an ultrasound est looking at the heart. I hope this helps.

Very unlikely. : Very unlikely .  Should that occur, probably the worst thing that would happen is a superficial ulceration in the skin, if you are asking about superficial spider veins.

Accepted Answer

Maybe better: There is debate in cardiovascular surgery whether radial arteries have better long term results than saphenous vein grafts. Assuming the surgeon is experienced in handling the radial artery, the results are at least as good as vein grafts and maybe better over the long run.

Depends: The vericose veins can cause pain. They can also become pronounced and tortuous causing pain. If your Doppler study was negative. Then no clits. A Doppler to the legs cannot detect a clot in the upper extremities b
