Accepted Answer

Not yet: I question your right to left permanent shunt.  In otherwise normal hearts the pressure on the left side is higher, making right to left shunting episodic at best.  The current trials do not support closure of pfos to prevent stroke.

Please ask yourself about:
•	Alcohol, Caffeine, Spicy food use
•	 Feeling “quite sluggish” is it hangover?
•	Sprain of foot due to Alcohol use? causing pain on the joint and feeling numb
•	Stresses of life

i am consulting a doctor for heart failure and aortic valvereplacement. i have a feeling of fluid on the ball of my left foot and my big toe feels a little numb. what could be thereason?

Might be a ganglion: If you notice a localized area of swelling in the ball of the foot, it might be a ganglionic cyst, bursa, or neuroma. Impingement on the nerve can cause numbness.  Usually in congestive heart failure, swelling looks more generalized in the feet, ankles and legs. If you press on the swelling, and it leaves a dent, that is fluid retention and might be due to your heart.

Probably not: Decreased circulation to the feet can be painful.  If there are no discoloration, temperature changes (coolness, cold) it probably is not.  See  your doctor as soon as possible if you have arch and calf pain with prolonged walking or going up steps, or have pain in the feet in the middle of the night that wakes you and causes you to sit up and let gravity help flow blood back to your feet.

My heart is fine..: Spasms and pains in lower extremity could develop from l4-l5-s1 disc herniation, anything that compresses spinal cord in that region, as well as narrowing or occlusion of the arteries . You can see a podiatrist who can rule out the cause of the problem or get a vascular and neurological consult.

Hmmmmmm....: One sided swelling has a lower likely hood of being heart related.  If the heart doesn't work right the effects will be of all downstream structures.  There are one sided likely problems... Dvt and vascular flow interferences..... Come to mind.  Many others exist...... See your doctor first......

Heart felt in chest: The heart beat can be felt through the chest especially in a person who is in the lighter end of the scale.

Two causes that come: to my mind, without any injury (fall or something heavy falling on the foot or ankle) are Gout or Pseudogout. Others include maybe an insect bite.
See your PCP to have a blood test and even some fluid removed from the swollen part might provide an answer(Dx).

Tingling: tingling sensations are typically off neurologic origin, likely best evaluated by a neurologist to determine the level of origin of symptoms i.e. brain versus spinal versus local foot pathology.

my left foot has been swollen for 4 days. what can i do to reduce the swelling? i am a 40 year female who is overweight and am inactive. i stood on my feet the last several days cooking. i have a heart condition too.

If : If only one foot is swollen, it's unlikely it's from fluid retention or your heart.  It's probably something local.  It's hard to say exactly what is causing your swelling, although varicose veins and/or phlebitis come to mind.

You're best off having your primary care physician take a look, especially given that you have a heart condition as well.
