when will the laxatives for my colonoscopy preparation start working?

1 to 2 hours: You should start having bowel movements witin an hour of starting the prep. The stools initially will be formed but will quickly progress to diarrhea. You should be at home when you start taking the prep.

Accepted Answer

Normal: This is likely due top the fact that you had a good bowel prep.  I do not know your eating habits, but likely you have constipation.  Try drinking more weather and eating 30-40 grams of fiber a day.  If this continues consider getting a loon motility  study.  Talks to your doctor about it

24 Hour Prep: Your GI specialist is supposed to provide you a sheet with instructions to clean your bowel. You need to avoid any solid foods for 24 hours before the procedure. During this time you need to take laxatives till your bowel movements are entirely liquid and free of any residual fecal matter. Drink plenty of liquids during this time, to avoid dehydration. Good luck!.

Maybe: Yopu should follow the directions provided to you by your endoscopist and follow them exactly as instructed!

in leaflet coming with a peg laxative it say that if you have colonoscopy in evening you can start drinking it in morning, 6 hour before colonoscopy?

The direction: for preparation for this study differs a bit from Endoscopist to Endoscopist (the GI Doctors who do the testing) FOLLOW His/Her Instructions (Call their office !) HOWEVER the instructions which accompany the preparation materials /medications are usually RELIABLE and this sounds reasonable!

Glycerin suppository: Buy some glycerin suppositories, use one as directed. That should open the floodgates for all of the things you took from above to empty your colon.

i have to take moviprep laxative for colonoscopy, do i add water and then add powder? or do i add powder to glass and then water ? or is either way ok

Ask Dr.: firstly, ask the doctor who prescribed the preparation or the nurse.  Secondly, I am quite sure they must have provided you with written directions...

i'm constantly bloated. went to my gastro..she suggested, colonoscopy, said, was up to me. not needed, she said to try laxatives when needed. thoughts?

Possibilities: It could be irritable bowel syndrome (try bentyl) or bacterial overgrowth (consider a course of antibiotics). If you have had pancreatic surgery or drank alcohol excessively before, you pancreas may not be producing enzymes properly (try creon with meals).. Check with your doctor for detail..

i've been entirely emptied out in order for the colonoscopy to work. so how will he see my colon if i can't even be emptied out by the colonoscopy laxative?

You may need more: you may need more laxatives to liquify your stool. if you don't have bowel movements with the laxative, it is unlikely your gastroenterologist will be able to do a good exam

Not really: Colon prep is mainly laxative. 
Gallbladder attack comes from Fatty food.Some times the gall stone blocks the Ampula of Vater an opening at the Duodenum can may cause the attack.
