Depends: Lattice degeneration is thinning of peripheral retina from vitreous "pulling" on retina with whitening of blood vessels- forms a patch of "lattice" white blood vessels and thinned retina.  Lattice can be associated with round retinal holes from the thinning and retinal tears at the edge-this can result in retinal detachment.  Laser is used to treat symptomatic tears or risk of retinal detachment.

Accepted Answer

Perhaps never: Lattice degeneration lesions are considered by some to have increased risk of retinal tear and detachment.  However, it is not clearly established that such an association exists.  Many practitioners treat lattice degeneration only if the fellow eye has had a retinal tear or detachment.  
There is no 'intrinsic expectation' that an eye with lattice would have a retinal detachment.

i have lattice degeneration with old pigmented atrophic holes, so no treatment is required. are there any activities that i should avoid? i am constantly worried?

: Lattice degeneratin is an area of weakness of the peripheral retina which has lain down pigment to stabilized the retina. It is an area of weakness to trauma so you should avoid activities which create sudden acceleration/deceleration to your body and therefore to your eyes and of course avoid things like boxing and wrestling which can cause eye trauma.  Always wear safety glasses .

: The vast majority of patients with lattice degeneration do well and don't experience complications. I'd continue your checkups with the retina specialist and I'm sure you'll be reassured.

Accepted Answer

No limit on contact: Lens wear. The laser is on the back of your eye. Contact lenses are placed on the surface of the eye. You should be able to put the contacts in right after the laser treatment .

No problem: Alcohol will not affect the procedure or its results.  Always best to drink in moderation - but you know the usual cautionary notes.

Lattice: That is absolutely fine!  if you start to see lots of floating objects, flashing lights, or a dark curtain in your vision, then please call your local ophthalmologist right away!

Needs eval by eye MD: Lattice degeneration is a degenerative lesion in the periphery of the retina.  It is a relatively common  problem but in a few people,  can lead to retinal holes and tears and retinal detachment. 

You should be examined carefully by an ophthalmologist (eye MD) and find out if any treatment is needed.

No: Lattice degeneration is a degeneration; that is, the tissue fades away without any known cause.  It is much more common in near-sighted people.  It turns out that lasik is also commonly performed in near-sighted people.
