why am i gaining weight on lasix? my calorie intake is 900 to 1500 per day. my sodium intake is 600  - 900 milligrams per day.

Weight gain: Why are you taking lasix? In determining your proper intake of daily calories, one has to know what your ideal weight,present weight and level of daily physical activity are. If you are currently at ideal weight and don't expend much energy in your daily activities,then a daily intake of 1200-1500 calories should prevent weight gain. This amount of calories may be too much if you're very inactive.

: It is a high dose and usually used to get rid of fluid from the body in certain conditions eg congestive heart failure etc quickly. Under careful supervision it will not ruin your kidneys.

Maybe : Would expect you to have swelling of legs. If no swelling, cough maybe a cough that is not related to fluid build up irritating your lung.

Depends: Bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate)) is not reno-protective. However, high acid levels in the blood affect heart function, muscle function and kidney function. Reducing the blood acid level (seen by a rising bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) level or pH level) improves muscle function including the heart which improves kidney circulation. It also allows the kidneys to better control potassium levels. You can help the process by avoiding sodas!

Volume: the sodium level is a paradoxic gauge for your volume status.  When the sodium level is up such as in your case, it means that your volume or fluid status is low, and you could be dehydrated.  However, you have quite medical complexities, and you should discuss this further with your doctor and don't make any changes without your doctor's approval ok?!

Am perplexed: Restless leg syndrome is a movement disorder not associated with leg pain and swelling.  Did you misunderstand the explanation?  Do you have venous insufficiency or obstruction, or even thrombophlebitis.  A venous niva study might be needed.  Discuss with your doctor.

Caution required: In dilated cardiomyopathy, the decreased ejection fraction (squeezing function of the heart) may cause "back-up" of pressure which can result in fluid retention and edema (lungs, legs, abdomen, etc).  Lasix (furosemide) can be quite helpful for this.  If blood pressure is low, Lasix (furosemide) can be harmful, because blood pressure can worsen. 

Independently, low sodium is a marker for worse prognosis in cardiomyopathy.

Greater volume urine: First of all the Lasix makes more urine, hence your bladder fill up quickly. From here there could be two possibilities: 1- you may have over active bladder and you cannot control the urine when the urge to urinate strikes. Hence with Lasix due to large volume of urine the urine leaks out witout your control. 2-  underlying stress urinary incontinence ( leakage upon coughing) gets worse.
