Probably not: This has been studied, and 5-htp, the precursor for serotonin, is sold in healthfood stores for this purpose.  The idea is to flood the body and brain with precursor to increase serotonin (or with tyrosine, norepinephrine), having the same effect as getting an antidepressant.  Problem is, you flood the whole body, not just specific parts of the brain, so lots of se not much specific benefits.

Ask your OB: I don't see these meds on the contraindication list for this combination pill, but I think the prescribing doctor should have explained what to avoid if you told them what medications you are currently taking. Just to make sure, ask the prescribing OB GYN if this is alright

Yes but rare: L- tyrosine is an amino acid(building blocks of protein), that is not considered essential because the body can make it from other Amino Acids like phenylalanine.  It is part of the production chain of many neurotransmiter (substances that transmit the message from nerve cell) and also important in the production of melanin which gives us our. Od rarely reported but should not be taken in large am.

Alertness, and Sleep: L-tyrosine is a stimulatory neurotransmitter precursor.  5htp is an inhibitory neurotransmitter precursor.  Both may be helpful as antidepressants when appropriately used.  L-tyrosine is best taken in the morning or during the day; 5htp is best taken (in high doses--150 mg) at bedtime, or lower doses (50 mg) during the day.

Different: 5htp is a precursor of serotonin, an inhibitory neurotransmitter.  L-tyrosine is a precursor of the dopaminergic neurotransmitters Epinephrine and norepinephrine, which are stimulatory neurotransmitters.  Although both 5htp and l-tyrosine may act as anti-depressants, they act in completely different ways.  5htp is best taken at bedtime; l-tyrosine should be taken in the am or during the day.

Should not: If it has any effect at all, tyrosine should decrease prolactin.  It is the immediate precursor for dopamine, which is released from the hypothalamus onto the pituitary and, among other things, affects prolacting release; however, the effect of increased Dopamine would be to decrease prolactin.  Drugs that block Dopamine receptors (antipsychotics) can cause marked increases in prolactin levels.
